# Creation and Exploration

Data contracts define the structure, rules, and expectations for your data, ensuring consistency and reliability across AU-DOHP. This segment will guide you through creating your first data contract

1. Navigate to the "**Data Contracts**" module
2. Click on "**Create Data Contract**"
3. Fill out the following fields:
   * [x] Name of the contract
   * [x] Contract description
     * Purpose
     * Limitations
     * Usage
   * [x] Status \[active/inactive/pending]
4. Specify output format(schema) for every column
   * [x] Column names
   * [x] Column types
   * [x] Properties (Optional)
5. Click "**Add New Property**" *#4,5 are iterable steps*
6. Press "**Save**"
